Wedding Venues In Western Massachusetts

Western MA Wedding Photographers

Although we travel throughout all of New England to photograph weddings, we especially love those that are close to home in Western Massachusetts. Of course we are a little biased, but places like the Berkshires and the Pioneer Valley just seem to have it all.

From epic hikes like the Appalachian Trail in Adams, MA to some of the best artsy downtown shopping, this is one of our favorite places in the world. Getting married in western MA means that you’ll likely have great weather for a summer wedding and stunning fall foliage if you get married in September or October. Wedding guests will also enjoy exploring some of the more urban adventures in MA like the college townsMass MOCA, or going on a scenic drive to see the quaint towns that dot Western MA.

As a bride who once planned her own wedding, I loved being able to give our guests some local ideas of things to do when wedding events weren’t happening, making it more of a mini vacation for people who had the time! Included in this list of our favorite wedding venues are also sightseeing ideas, outdoor recreation activities and things like museum and theater options.

We take a laid back and candid approach to the weddings we photograph. Our clients usually describe our photography as documentary, and our goal is to capture the spontaneous moments of your wedding day. Over the years we’ve found that our ability to blend into the background at weddings helps put people at ease around us, and we are able to truly document the day as it unfolds. Other words couples use to describe our photos are bright, fun, natural, and ethereal.

Since we have had so much experience documenting weddings throughout this region, we are happy to share some of our favorite Western Massachusetts wedding venues here. We specialize in scenic outdoor weddings that usually have a tented reception or pavilion, but this list includes lots of options for getting married on the western side of Massachusetts!

Top Ten Outdoor Wedding Venues in Western MA

Valley View Farm  –  Haydenville, MA

www.valleyviewfarm.info

The Valley View Farm offers a “laid back” luxury venue for couples wanting an upscale farm wedding. This historic farm and orchard property was first settled in 1735! Wedding ceremonies are typically held in the covered pavilion with sides that can be opened for tons of fresh air, or closed in case of inclement weather. Receptions are in the large yellow barn on the property. Long family style tables are provided and the barn’s vaulted ceiling gives guests a sense of rustic elegance.

Here is a blog post from one of our favorite fall weddings at the Valley View Farm.

There are two getting ready spaces at this venue, with plenty of room for a wedding party. The Valley View Farm also provides farm to table catering, with nearly the entire menu sourced locally.

While there isn’t enough space for all of the wedding guests to stay over, this venue does offer accommodations for up to 22 people on site.

More details about the Valley View Farm:

  • This venue allows for up to 200 guests
  • Multiple locations on site for getting ready on the wedding day
  • Two houses for lodging on the property with a total of 10 bedrooms
  • Covered pavilion serves as great rain plan for the ceremony
  • Nearest airport is Bradley International Airport in CT – 45 miles from the Valley View Farm

Warfield House Inn  –  Charlemont, MA

The Warfield House Inn is a working farm with a rustic, woodsy feel and hundreds of acres overlooking the Deerfield River valley. This venue has an outdoor ceremony space in a garden, a covered pavilion for the reception, and enough on-site lodging for immediate family and/or the wedding party. It’s surrounded by fields with horses and cows, and little red barns and white farmhouses dot the property.

We have photographed tons of weddings at this hidden gem! Click here to see a collection of our favorite outdoor weddings at the Warfield House Inn.

We love this wedding venue because it has a cozy outdoor ceremony space set in the middle of a lush flower garden. Guests will watch you say I do with the green backdrop of the Berkshire East Resort. There is a rustic cedar pergola available in the garden ceremony location. We’ve seen couples cover the pergola with trailing greens, floral arrangements or just leave it simple. After the ceremony, guests can enjoy cocktails on the garden patio overlooking the ceremony site and are welcome to explore the farm. There is also a large fire pit area surrounded with Adirondack chairs for guests to mingle and take in the scenery.

Receptions with dinner and dancing are held in the rustic white pavilion just above the ceremony site. We love the pavilion at the Warfield House because it has a really open, fresh air feel. This kind of covered pavilion also serves as a solid rain plan should mother nature have less than ideal plans on your wedding day.

This venue is the perfect place for guests to enjoy a wedding weekend in Western MA. Located just a short drive from the picturesque town of Shelburne Falls, guests will have so many options for weekend activities at this spot. The Berkshire East Ski Resort is just a five minute drive away where mountain biking, zip lining and the epic mountain coaster can entertain those more thrill seeking friends and family members. For guests who want a more relaxing activity, shopping and dining in Shelburne Falls would be a perfect trip. Shelburne Falls also has one of the more amazing attractions we’ve found in all of New England–the infamous Bridge of Flowers. Visiting this stunning bridge is always on our list of things to do when our own family or friends visit us in Western Mass!

Our last wedding at the Berkshire Botanical Garden proved what a lovely venue this is for intimate weddings. This expansive 24-acre property has multiple outdoor ceremony locations and offers an easy walking path for guests to explore the lush gardens.

One of our favorite things about this venue is the on site art museum (which always features fascinating work) and the unique outdoor sculptures throughout the property. There is also a stunning “living wall” when you first enter the building–perfect for guest selfies!

The Deerfield Inn is located in the historic little village of Deerfield, MA. It is 20 minutes north of Northampton, MA and just under 2 hours from Boston. We photographed our first wedding at this venue in October of 2022 and can’t wait to be back! We loved how quintessentially New England this Inn feels, and it also has accommodations for guests to stay overnight.

This venue has two separate spaces for weddings, based on size. For weddings with up to 70 guests, the Terrace can be reserved. This spot has an indoor and outdoor option for guests to explore and enjoy. The outdoor area is tented with gardens, and inside there’s a cozy fireplace that really adds ambiance to the reception.

The Gedney Farm wedding venue in the Berkshires is the perfect venue for couples who love history. This venue is located in the National Historic District of “New Marlboro”, a town that first settled in 1740. This upscale country wedding venue has two Normandy-style barns on the property. Guests will be enchanted with the beautifully detailed dormers and cupolas of the barns. One barn is for lodging, and the other is an event barn. The lodging barn has 16 rooms for overnight guest stays. Some of these rooms even have granite fire places, and large whirlpool tubs!

The event barn at Gedney Farm used to be a horse barn for prized Percheron horses. It has been fully renovated, and is now a luxurious three-story wedding reception barn. The barn has A/C and heat options in case the weather isn’t cooperating on the wedding day.

Couples typically choose an outdoor ceremony at the Gedney Farm. There is a gorgeous field ceremony site on the property, with a large arching tree as a natural arbor.

Although the town of New Marlboro is small, there are still lots of things for guests to do during the wedding weekend. Just a few miles from the Gedney Farm is the Les Trois Emme Winery. For guests looking to explore nature, there is an easy trail to check out the waterfall at Campbell Falls or hike to the summit of Dry Falls for an epic view! The quaint town of Great Barrington is just an 18 minute drive from the Gedney Farm and offers shopping and wonderful farm to table dining restaurants.

Blantyre  –  Lenox, MA

https://blantyre.com/

Blantyre is a luxury resort set on 110 acres of lush lawns and Berkshire woodlands. This venue features an upscale farm-to-table style restaurant, a relaxing spa, and outdoor activities from tennis to croquet. The Tudor brick mansion called the Manor House at Blantyre was built in 1902 and is filled with antique furnishings. There are various cottages and a carriage house on site, allowing for a total of 24 rooms available for overnight stays.

This venue truly feels like a step back in time. The brick Manor House mansion is covered with lush green ivy, and the surrounding gardens have a wild, overgrown (yet neatly tucked in) look. The lawn surrounding the mansion is expansive, and this venue provides for so many creative wedding photo ideas! One of our favorite spots is the curving lavender garden, where you can breathe in the relaxing lavender scent while we do all the work to make you look amazing.  :)

This venue can host intimate weddings with 30 guests or up to 200 guests if you’re planning an all our party! There is an outdoor ceremony location in the green space behind the farm house, or in case of inclement weather, ceremonies can be held indoors. Couples can also choose to get ready for the day by using the Crissey Farm’s on site bridal suite.

One of our favorite things about this venue is their farm to table food! Ingredients are all grown / raised locally, and any pastries or desserts are made from scratch in the farm’s kitchen.

Stonover Farm  –  Lenox, MA

https://www.stonoverfarm.com/

Does an upscale wedding with New England charm sound like your idea of a dream wedding? You’ve got to check out the Stonover Farm. This luxury wedding venue is nestled in the hills of Lenox, MA and is a working bed and breakfast. The Stonover Farm house was built in 1890, and owned by the same family until 1985. Despite this property changing hands, the main house’s exterior is identical to how it looked 100 years ago! It almost feels like you are walking back in time when you first see this property.

The Stonover Farm is situated on 10 acres of beautiful land, including a duck pond! There are three buildings on the property for lodging. The Main House, Rock Cottage and the School House can accommodate overnight stays of up to fourteen guests.

When couples book the Stonover Farm for their wedding, they have access to the entire farm for the weekend, and can even arrive three days prior to the weekend for prep work, decorating, etc.

Just a half mile away from Stonover is the famous Tanglewood music venue, where the Boston Symphony Orchestra hosts concerts throughout the summer. For guests who love gardening and history, Edith Wharton’s Home called “The Mount” is less than a ten minute drive away and showcases her mansion and gardens with a greenhouse. When booking the Mount for your wedding, the property is closed to all visitors, so you have complete freedom to use the spaces as you wish. The third floor of the mansion has a variety of exhibits on display and is always open to the wedding guests to meander through.

Coordinator – KCampbell@hancockshakervillage.org

Situated on 750 acres of land, getting married at the Hancock Shaker Village means you will have all of the privacy for your wedding you could ever dream of! There are twenty historic buildings on site, including two Shaker barns. Heirloom gardens dot the property, and from many spots you can catch glimpses of the farm animals like cows, goats and sheep who roam the surrounding lush hills.

Whether you are planning an intimate wedding, or a 250 person soiree, this venue has the space to make everything feel like a perfect fit. Most couples planning a smaller wedding with 75 guests or less choose to have their wedding in one of the cozier spaces. The Brick L (attached to round barn) is an option, or couples can host an intimate wedding in the Believer’s Room. For couples planning a larger wedding, there is the historic round barn or 1910 barn available.

We always love venues where the couple has a location to prepare for the day. The Hancock Shaker village has three great places for the bride and groom to get ready. The Brick Dwelling, Leander Hall, and the Poultry House are all options for the couple to use on the wedding day for getting ready.

Although there is no overnight lodging on site at this venue, there are numerous Bed and Breakfasts and Airbnb options within a 15 minute drive of the Hancock Shaker Village. If guests are looking for more upscale accommodations, there is an amazing Boutique Hotel in Pittsfield–Hotel on North, nestled in the downtown area of Pittsfield.

Couples can choose to rent out the entire venue or they could pick and choose to have certain locations available, but there is never more than one event at one time at the Hancock Shaker Village.

The Montague Retreat Center  –  Montague, MA

http://www.montagueretreatcenter.com/

This wedding venue is a hidden gem in Western Mass. The Montague Retreat Center was originally built in 1776 and was a working farm until 1968, when it became the Montague Farm commune. It later transitioned again in 2002 to house the Zen Peacemakers until 2011. So basically, this is a hippie wedding venue dream, and we couldn’t love this place more.

There is a gorgeous outdoor ceremony space that backs up to an old apple orchard on the property and has stunning views across the valley. Couples typically plan for an outdoor ceremony, but we love that this venue has a beautiful inclement weather option inside of the barn. A 40’ x 50’ reception tent is set up over the stone patio for cocktails and extra dinner space if needed. In 2022, this venue will be partnering exclusively with Wheelhouse for catering, and we can attest, their food is INCREDIBLE. If you’ve ever eaten at the Wheelhouse restaurant, you know their food is almost entirely sourced locally in the Pioneer Valley.

Candid photo of the bride to be smiling in her flower crown at this Gould Barn rehearsal dinner.

We love that the Montague Retreat Center has plenty of options for the couple to prepare for the day on site. There is a wedding lounge, a yurt, and in 2022, five beautiful cabins will be available! This venue also offers overnight lodging for guests.

Here is a fantastic drone video to give you a great idea of what the space looks like at the Montague Retreat Center – http://www.montagueretreatcenter.com/content/weddings

The town of Montague is just 3 miles down the road and although it only has a population of 8500 people, it has some super adorable spots for guests to check out. The Montague Bookmill is one of our favorite spots in town, and has both books to peruse through AND coffee with views overlooking the little waterfall that this mill was built on.

More details about the Montague Retreat Center

  • This venue can accommodate weddings with up to 200 guests
  • Weddings can be booked from May through October
