About the Round Barn Farm

Located on 245 acres of rolling fields and floral meadows, the Joslyn Round Barn Farm was built in 1910 by Clem Joslyn, and was used as a dairy barn until 1969. In 1986, Jack and Doreen Simko bought the farm, and restored the farmhouse into a seven-guestroom Vermont Inn. In 1988, they began a 12-year restoration of the Round Barn, and in 1988, the Joslyn Round Barn was registered in the National Registry of Historic Places. No longer a working dairy barn, the Round Barn now hosts a variety of community activities from conferences and art exhibits to concerts and weddings.

Where do round barns come from? It is said that the religious Shakers believed that “the devil can’t catch you in the corners,” and that is the reason why they built their barns round. For farmers, round barns are efficient for maneuvering large farm equipment, and herding animals in and out in a circle. The Joslyn Round Barn was one of the original 25 round barns in Vermont, but today only five round barns remain in the state.

About the Round Barn Farm Wedding Venue

For an outdoor ceremony, the Round Barn’s rear terrace and yard, with its picturesque foliage, fields, and ponds, and gorgeous views of surrounding meadows and mountains is ideal. Couples may also choose to hold their ceremonies indoors, with candlelight flickering against the barn’s warm wooden interior and high ceilings. The authentic beams are whitewashed to provide couples a blank canvas upon which to create their personal wedding vision.

The Round Barn can accommodate 151 to 200 guests, and the milking parlor or hayloft levels of the barn can be arranged for either food stations, buffets, or sit down dinners. The barn’s hayloft is the perfect place to end the day with music and dancing, and in the warmer months, the large terrace is available for outdoor cocktail and hors d’oeuvre hours.
