There is something undeniably magical about a Vermont barn wedding, and The Inn at Round Barn Farm in Waitsfield is easily one of the most iconic spots in the Green Mountains.

As a Vermont wedding photographer, I’m always looking for venues that offer a blend of historic charm and incredible natural light. Whether you’re planning a ceremony in the organic gardens or a reception inside the stunning 1910 circular barn, this venue provides a 360-degree canvas for documentary-style photography.

Photographer’s Perspective: 3 Things to Know About Weddings at The Inn at Round Barn Farm

  1. The “All-in-One” Luxury (More Photos, Less Stress) It sounds simple, but having your prep, ceremony, and reception all at The Inn at Round Barn Farm is a game changer for your wedding day timeline. In our experience shooting across New England, travel between a hotel and a venue can eat up 30-60 minutes of a standard 8-hour package. By staying on-site in Waitsfield, those minutes turn into extra candid moments with your guests and more time for stunning portraits around the property.
  2. The “Secret” Hilltop Sunset While the grounds immediately surrounding the circular barn are beautiful, here is a professional tip: the best light isn’t actually at the barn. Just up the road at the top of the hill, the landscape opens up to offer incredible, soft pastel colors at dusk. We usually recommend stealing away for 10 minutes right after you finish your dinner. The sun sets over the Mad River Valley in a way that creates a much softer glow on that hilltop than it does down in the valley by the pond.
  3. Professionalism The staff here are true Vermont wedding pros. Having worked at hundreds of venues, we can tell you that a professional team makes the difference between a stressed timeline and a seamless day. Their expertise with the circular barn’s unique acoustics and layout ensures that your event flows perfectly, allowing us to focus entirely on capturing your story rather than navigating logistics.

Get Hitched in a Historic Place

Built in 1910 as a dairy barn by Clem Joslyn, the Round Barn Farm spans 245 acres of rolling fields and meadows. After serving as a working dairy barn until 1969, the property found new life when Jack and Doreen Simko purchased it in 1986. The Simkos transformed the farmhouse into a seven-room Vermont inn and spent 12 years carefully restoring the Round Barn, which earned its place on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1988.

Once one of Vermont’s 25 historic round barns—structures popularized by Shaker beliefs and praised for their farming efficiency—it now stands as one of only five remaining in the state. Today, the Round Barn hosts everything from weddings and concerts to conferences and art exhibits, continuing its legacy as a gathering place for the community.

“We had an amazing time working with them and now have beautiful photos to remember our special day.”
