Although we have spent lots of time vacationing in Colorado, this Devil’s Thumb Ranch wedding was only our second time photographing a wedding in the Rockies. We first met Russell and Jen first when they were guests at Christina & Scott’s Thompson Island wedding in Boston last summer. We were so flattered that they loved our work enough to hire us to document their own big day!

There really isn’t another backdrop in the U.S. that compares to the Rocky Mountains. Russell and Jen chose an incredible venue that truly honored that backdrop. During the outdoor ceremony, horses pranced in the valley behind them while snow capped peaks towered in the distance. Jen said that her favorite part of the day was their ceremony, “The feeling with the sun on my face, standing in front of all of our family and friends, and holding Russell’s hands, taking our solemn vows, was exciting, and scary, and unforgettable.”

Russell and Jen have always loved Colorado. When choosing the Devil’s Thumb Ranch as their wedding venue, they were also choosing to share that love with some of their closest friends and family. Just a few miles from the Winter Park Resort, this venue has everything a couple would want for their wedding. There was a scenic outdoor ceremony space, a large rustic lodge for the reception, and cozy cabins for guests to stay overnight!

After preparing for the day at the bridal suite at Devil’s Thumb, Jen headed into the field for a first look with Russell. Even with the chilly temperatures, these two were happy to explore the property for great photo opportunities. The mountain range and old horse fences were an obvious backdrop for photos. We also found some unique locations near the lodge, surrounded by Blue Spruce!

When the ceremony wrapped up, guests were invited up to the wrap around porch for cocktails and appetizers. The Radio Band started up the party after toasts and the dance floor was packed! Thanks to Russell and Jen for trusting us to document the memories of their wedding day… we wish you both all the best as husband and wife!
