Planning an AirBnb / VRBO Wedding in Vermont
Maggie and Kyle hosted their intimate October wedding at a gorgeous AirBnb they rented in Stratton, Vermont. This couple knew that they were having a guest list of less than 20 people, and wanted to take advantage of the stunning fall foliage that Vermont has to offer in October. They found the perfect house to rent on the edge of the Stratton Resort and started planning!
Smaller weddings, or micro weddings as they are sometimes called, can be tricky to plan. Some couples open up their own backyards for their wedding, while others try to find venues that will accommodate a limited number of guests while still maintaining a cozy vibe. Renting a home through AirBnB or VRBO for the weekend is truly a budget-friendly solution to create a memorable experience for both you and your closest friends and family!
Things to consider when planning an AirBnb/VRBO wedding:
• Does the host allow gatherings
• Is there parking available
• What’s the bathroom situation
• Is there a noise ordinance in the area
Cost of hosting a wedding at a rental house
While traditional venues can cost thousands of dollars (and that’s usually just from 4-11 pm!), renting a house through AirBnb or VRBO can be a significant money saver. Most rentals will also allow for an extended weekend rental, allowing for a less stressful wedding day. Rental costs can range between $500 and $3500, depending on the size of the home and the location. There will be other costs to consider as well–like ordering portable bathrooms, catering, and your own time spent tidying up after the event.
How to find rental homes to host your wedding or elopement
Unfortunately AirBnB removed it’s “events allowed” filter, so finding a rental house through AirBnB is more challenging than it used to be. Contacting hosts directly seems to be the best course of action to finding homes that allow for weddings, but I will also link to some specific homes on AirBnb below that have hosted weddings in the past.
VRBO has a much friendlier policy toward hosting events. When searching on VRBO, just make sure to click on the “Filters” tab and scroll down to the House Rules section. Expand that section to click the option for “EVENTS ALLOWED” and VRBO will provide you with a list of homes to choose from.
