What to expect when you book an engagement session with us!

Why add an engagement session to your package?

The Quick Answers are…

1. Getting to know your photographer

2. Score some high quality photos for save the dates!

3. Build the path for a less stressful wedding day

Why are engagement sessions a great idea?

Engagement sessions are always a great idea! They give us a chance to get to know each other better before we spend 8+ hours together on the actual wedding day. Chances are you haven’t had professional photos taken since your parents forced you into that holiday shoot ten years ago. And let’s be honest, the idea of flashing huge smiles while staring into the deep abyss of a camera lens is exactly no one’s idea of fun (okay, almost no one, and definitely not 99% of our clients!). Luckily, our style of photography isn’t forced or awkward. Engagement sessions will give you a much better idea of how portraits will go on the actual wedding day, which translates to one less thing to worry about!

What do people do with their engagement photos?

  • Save the dates
  • Guest book
  • Reception decor

Ultimately, there are lots of things you can do with the photos, but getting an understanding of how we approach portraits and capture those great candid moments on your wedding day is our favorite takeaway from engagement sessions!

Where should we have our engagement session?

Most couples choose a location that has sentimental value for them–like where they got engaged, or their favorite place to go hiking.

We also have a TON of engagement location ideas to fit whatever you are envisioning. Wanting a woodsy location that is a quick drive from Boston? We’ve got it. Looking for a scenic backdrop in western Mass with tons of flowers? Done.

Here are some examples of past engagement sessions so you can get a sense of how different locations look in the photos!

How long do engagement sessions last?

We typically schedule engagement sessions on a weekday, and begin about 90 minutes before the sun sets. This way we get the most UNBELIEVABLE natural light and have plenty of time for a variety of backdrops.

Sessions typically last 60-90 minutes and include a mix of candid photos and a few “look at the camera and smile” shots.

Most of our sessions are held at one location with five to six different walkable backdrops within that location.

Want to see what a full session looks like from start to finish, check out Allie and Kyle’s Coolidge Reservation engagement session by the ocean just north of Boston.

What do we wear?

We have found that a mix of solid colors and prints seem to photograph well regardless of backdrop. For example, one person could wear a pair of khaki pants and a patterned shirt, and the other could wear a white dress.

If you’re wanting a woodsy session, we’ve found lighter colors seem to work best. For sessions that are going to have an ocean backdrop, brighter colors like a red dress really pop.

Most sessions will allow for two outfit changes so you can have a variety of styles within the session.

How much do engagement sessions cost?

Our engagement sessions are $850 and that includes roughly 60-80 full resolution, toned photos in both color and black and white from the session.

Our couples receive their engagement photos via a download link within two weeks from the date of the session.

We include travel within a 30 mile radius of our home base in Leyden, MA. Beyond that we do have a travel fee of $1.25/mile.
