We love rustic barn weddings. And we adore Vermont. I think it’s safe to say that we were in heaven at the Webster Barn in Hyde Park to document Nancy and Zach’s absolutely gorgeous wedding day. These two, who traveled up from Brooklyn, NY to tie the knot, had some awesome DIY ideas. Our favorite was a Wilco concert inspired light backdrop in the barn, which doubled as their photobooth backdrop later during the reception! A friend of their’s also built an incredible solar-powered sound installation in the field behind the barn. It sounded like wind chimes, but when you stood in between the speakers, the sound came from all around you. It was mesmerizing! :)
Before their traditional Jewish ceremony outside, Nancy and Zach did a “first look” photo, followed by a short portrait session. These two were up for anything, and they even climbed into a tall grass field for the perfect shot. They had an epic Hora dance in the barn, and after we had made all the dancing photographs possible… we headed home. At the last minute, Max decided to try a long-exposure photograph to get all of the stars above the barn. He noticed some colorful beams flickering over the mountains in the north, and shot a 30 second exposure to see if he could capture it. After the shutter closed, he looked at the back of the camera and low and behold, the NORTHERN LIGHTS were burned onto the frame.
I have to say, this has been a dream of Max’s, who is already a dedicated space nerd, for such a long time… it was absolutely magical to finally get a glimpse of this elusive natural sight. They only lasted a few minutes, and when we returned home, Max looked up the aurora forecast and sure enough, the magnetic fields were super active that night! It was the most exciting ending of a wedding I think we’ve ever witnessed, and unfortunately, I feel like the bar has been set quite high for future weddings! ;)
