Kelsie and Doug had one of the most thoroughly styled rustic barn weddings in New England that we’ve ever documented, with antique furnishings, custom seed packet escort cards, and DIY details that overwhelmed our lenses. They also unfortunately got stuck with the most challenging weather situation that faces an outdoor ceremony… rain. And not just rain, but thunderstorms that refused to let up!  Yep, our streak of rain-free weddings has officially ended… but in all honesty, this couple really took lemons and made lemonade. Guests pitched in and carried chairs to the 100-year-old barn that Kelsie and Doug had set up for dancing, and “I do’s” were spoken in an intimate setting while the rain continued to pour outside.

The entire wedding was held on Doug’s aunt and uncle’s property, Sugar Hill Farm, in Antrim, NH. After the ceremony, the sun came out!  Even though the grounds were soaked, guests made their way to each of the unique areas that Kelsie and Doug had set up for the day. A tented reception area where dinner would be served displayed antique plates and vintage vases with wildflowers on each table. They used burlap runners to add rustic flair to the decor and hand painted wooden signs to let guests know what to expect ahead of them. In their outdoor ceremony area, a handmade birch tree arbor with draped white chiffon is where Kelsie would have entered the ceremony from. (We were able to make great use of it for portraits though!)

In the barn, Kelsie and Doug draped hundreds of strands of sparkling lights from the rafters, and hung antique photographs of their relatives on the wall. Maple syrup, made on Sugar Hill Farm, was given away as guest favors and Kelsie’s grandmother made all of the pies from scratch for dessert! One of the coolest things that Kelsie and Doug incorporated into their day was the use of a super old cast iron stove in the “tea room” area of the barn. They used it as a shelf for all of the antique tea cups that guests could use for tea or coffee later in the night, and it added such a rustic old farm feel to the room. I guess I should also admit that Max and I have a pretty intense love affair with vintage kitchen appliances, so upon first glance of this stove, we were smitten.  :)
